Konka's Nelson Mandela Initiative

man 3We went to visit Botshabelo Community Development Trust in Magaliesburg, where we handed out soup and bread to the community.

Botshabelo is a rural community made up of a school, orphanage, medical clinic and village.

They care for children whose families can’t afford to care for them and those orphaned by HIV/AIDS and help anyone in need, regardless of background or age.

Konka is so privileged to have been part of this heart-warming organisation, we truly enjoyed it and it is great to see the passion and love that goed into every child.

Konka does their bit for Nelson Mandela Day

Konka invited 3 big children's homes (Hugh's haven, Maria Kloppers, Morester Children's home) to join them for an all inclusive weekend from the 18th - 20th July as part of the Mandela Day initiative.

The kids, aged 5 to 18, got a chance to learn more about their environment and enjoy fun activities that build morale, develop leadership skills and promote team work.

The caretakers of each children's home was given new ideas on activities to stimulate each age group appropriately and ensure a sustainable program can be followed after the camp -Mandela believed that the future of South Africa starts with it's children, that's why each initiative that focuses on the development and education of children, can be seen as the building blocks for the future - Konka also gave over 200 blankets and Ponchos to children under the age of five, as part of our Mandela Day initiative.

Reach for a Dream and Konka partner to inspire hope

image-2Reach for a Dream's annual Family Focus camp held on the Konka grounds was once again, a major success.  When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, the family unit is uprooted on an emotional, financial and physical level.  This is why the Family Focus program aims to give the family unit an opportunity to spend extra time together.  They also get the opportunity to meet other families with shared experiences who become a source of comfort and strength.

The families enjoyed an amazing fun-filled weekend with Konka, where there was tons of presents, swimming, kayaking, group activities, ice breakers and of course eating like kings and queens.  Konka's mission has always been to provide a life changing soul adventure.  this is why it's a great privilege for Konka to be part of such an amazing initiative!

Reach for a Dream and Konka hosts a camp for underprivileged and abused children

Konka joined Reach for a Dream in hosting their amazing and heart-felt camp for HIV positive and abused children. The Camp Sunshine initiative inspires these young children to build comradery , share and learn life skills and improve self esteem.

They kicked off the camp with great 'ice breakers' creating a comfortable atmosphere for 'friend-making', especially among kids who may be more reserved.  They enjoyed a weekend filled with fun activities such as a marshmallow braai along a camp fire, boeresport, adventure races and night hikes.  Konka made sure every child leaves with a smile, it is after all the Konka way.

Konka believes in learning through play, with our top notch facilitators, amazing facilities and personalized programs, we could help them realize their potential in themselves and in the special friendships they form with one another.  The Reach for a Dream foundation gives them a helping hand so they may know that they will never be alone in their fight, teaching them to accept their peers and enhancing their decision-making tools.  These are all principles that Konka lives by.

Konka would like to thank the Reach for a Dream foundation for enriching the lives of so many underprivileged children, truly inspiring hope.

Konka donates R20 000 to Sir Edmund Hillary for a leadership camp.

hoofKonka, who worked alongside Clover Fonterra, sponsored the Sir Edmund Hillary leadership camp consisting of 111 pupils, for a weekend of fun activities.

According to Ilze Kok, programme co-coordinator, the pupils enjoyed themselves tremendously. A testament to Konka’s ability to develop true potential with our breakthrough methods concerning leadership skills, while maintaining our all-round fun atmosphere.

So, in the words of Nick Fearon, sales manager of the international travel company, Edwin Doran, south of England:
“This is why people should come to Konka camps, it is everything that other sterile professional sports venues are not – FUN.”

Konka helps Cargill with their community project:

DSC01599Cargill, an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services, teamed up with Konka to tend to the very disadvantaged Naauwpoort school, as part of their teambuilding initiative.

The Cargill team enjoyed a fun filled morning on Konka grounds, with various teambuilding activities that entailed a watery fun-in-the-sun experience.  After a busy morning with group dynamics, the soaking wet Cargill team headed for the Naauwpoort school, situated near Rustenburg.

With the help of the Konka team, Cargill painted the inside of the very dirty asbestos classrooms and also supplied much needed stationary to each pupil at the Naauwpoort School.

The day ended on a high note when Cargill joined the Naauwpoort pupils on inflatables supplied by Crowd Creators, for a game of soccer and netball.

Konka would like to thank Cargill for their contribution to the Naaupoort School, and also for choosing Konka to help organise this memorable social responsibility project.
